Orthopaedic Mattresses
Orthopaedic mattresses
Beds.net are proud to offer a range of firm orthopaedic mattresses; the ideal mattress for providing total comfort, maintaining a healthy sleeping posture and providing restful sleep.
What is an orthopaedic mattress?
An orthopaedic mattress is a mattress type specially designed to offer an extra-firm sleep surface with the intention of relieving painful pressure points and promoting healthy spinal alignment. In comparison to other mattress types such as memory foam and pocket sprung, orthopaedic mattresses give the ideal amount of push-back, meaning you're less likely to toss and turn during the night.
Is an orthopaedic mattress firm or soft?
Orthopaedic mattresses are renowned for their firmness. Designed to provide you with maximum support throughout the night, the firm surface combined with a strong bed will support your back.
What orthopaedic mattress types are available?
Orthopaedic mattresses can be purchased in a variety of types to suit your sleeping preferences.
Memory foam
Beds.net's memory foam mattresses are made with 100% high-density foam and are available in a range of sizes. Because of their ability to trap body heat, they are especially good at keeping you warm during the cold winter months.
Pocket sprung
Pocket sprung mattresses with orthopaedic support offer a good mix of mattress firmness and body absorption. The internal pocket springs react to your body's contours and the orthopaedic base gives strong support to ensure a restful night and minimise aches.
Open coil
Mattresses with open coil springs are designed to give support by using a high number of springs that work together. Unlike other mattress types, open coil orthopaedic mattresses are not intended to absorb your body's weight but rather promote it, making them especially useful for sufferers of back pain who require further support.
Reflex foam
The high-density, responsive foam that reflex foam mattresses are comprised of naturally lends itself to a variety of mattresses in the orthopaedic range. The cushioned support of the reflex foam combines with the natural firmness of an orthopaedic mattress to provide a sleeping surface suitable for a wide variety of sleeping preferences.
Are orthopaedic mattresses good for bad backs and hips?
An orthopaedic mattress is a great choice for sufferers of back pain or other joint issues. Specifically designed to promote a healthy sleeping position, orthopaedic mattresses reduce the stress that is placed on your body's joints - especially in your hips, neck and back.
The firmness of the mattress provides enhanced levels of orthopaedic support throughout the night by evenly distributing your body weight. This serves to maintain the natural alignment of the spine in comparison to other mattress types which can, over time, sink in the middle, meaning the spine and the surrounding muscles are shaped in an unnatural posture throughout the night. This lack of firm support can cause a restless night's sleep, eventually leading to joint pain, painful pressure points and general aches and pains.
What sizes are orthopaedic mattresses available in?
Our orthopaedic mattresses are available in a range of sizes from 2ft6 small single to 6ft super king.
How long does an orthopaedic mattress last?
Orthopaedic mattresses are similar to other mattress types in that it is recommended that they are changed for a new mattress every seven years.
